All You Ever Wanted to Know About Insurance

Be Prepared: Review Your Insurance Coverage

September is National Preparedness Month—a great time to put together an emergency kit, establish a system for alerting family, employees, and customers in the event of a disaster, and developing a contingency plan to get your home or business up and running in the wake of an emergency.

It’s also a great time to review your key insurance policies and make sure that you have ample coverage to protect you from disaster.

Homeowners Insurance

Have you made any major home improvements? Have you accumulated any valuables? Have building costs increased in your area? Remember that you should ensure your property based on replacement value, not market value—and home improvements could increase the amount of coverage that you need.

Auto Insurance

Do you have a new (or newer) car—or a vintage automobile? Comprehensive collision coverage might be a good idea. Does your car come with fun electronics? Can you save money by getting your homeowners and auto insurance from the same provider? Is there a policy that will reward you for logging a low number of miles each year? Ask your insurance agent.

Life Insurance

How quickly would your family feel the economic impact of your death? One month? Two? Life insurance is certainly nothing we like to think about—but it’s a great way to ensure that your family is protected if something happens to you. If you’ve experienced—or will soon be experiencing—a major life event such as getting married, having a baby, or buying a home, take a look at your life insurance policy if you have one... and consider getting one if you don’t.
